Dr. Michelle Everson
Department of Statistics
The Ohio State University
In 2004, I designed and taught my first online course, and I have been teaching online ever since. I developed a passion for online teaching, and I strive to create active learning environments in all of my online courses. I have developed online versions of five different online courses, at the undergraduate- and graduate-levels, at two different universities. Now that my courses are getting bigger, I find myself reflecting more on what can and should be done in the online environment and what is reasonable in terms of instructor workload. My presentation will focus on lessons I have learned—sometimes the hard way—and advice I have to offer new online instructors. In particular, I will focus on issues related to workload, time management, student engagement, academic misconduct, choices of technology tools, and instructor presence.
All statistics students are expected to attend.
