Abstract:
What types of knowledge and skills are expected from a statistical
consultant? While statistical skills are important, sometimes researchers just
need help organizing their thoughts.
Many issues have been resolved by simply asking "Why are you conducting this study,
what do you want to show?"
We will discuss some projects that came to the Statistical Consulting Center. Many require standard analyses like two-sample tests, ANOVA, chi-square, and correlation that are well-covered in our curriculum. We will also discuss commonly requested methods, especially in social science research, that are not.
