Whether you are writing a report for regression class, a job application letter, or slides for a presentation, you want your document to have a professional appearance. Unless you have editorial training, wordprocessors like Microsoft Word are ill-suited for this. How large should your section headers be? Should they be bold? Should the abstract be italicized? Should you indent paragraphs after a mathematical equation?
LaTeX is a document preparation system for high-quality typesetting. It is based on the idea that authors should worry about the content rather than the design. LaTeX already contains layouts for the automatic typesetting of reports, letters, slide presentations, journal articles and books. Furthermore, LaTeX is free software (type "Latex download" in Google).
All statistics students are expected to attend.
