Why Pursue a Graduate Degree in Statistics?

A panel discussion by statistics faculty and students
Department of Statistics
Western Michigan University

Have you ever considered a graduate degree in data analysis? The jobs are typically in comfortable offices, and the pay is competitive. We invite undergraduates in introductory statistics classes to attend this panel discussion, especially those considering careers that might involve data analysis.

With a master's degree, statisticians may find jobs working with data in almost any field, including business, education, government, public health, or science and technology. Our graduates find work as:

  • clinical data analysts
  • programmers
  • economists
  • financial planners
  • insurance analysts
  • quality control managers
  • market researchers
  • public health researchers
  • statistical consultant
  • The department also offers programs that may be completed in less time: a Graduate Certificate in Applied Statistics, and a Graduate Certificate in Biostatistics. These are appropriate for those who are already completing a program like education or economics, and want to expand their skills in research or data analysis.

All statistics graduate students are expected to attend.
