Multivariate mapping strategies in product development research

Jason Parcon
Principal Scientist, Statistics
PepsiCo Global R&D

An important stage in the product development process in PepsiCo is to establish the relationship between the sensory attributes of a set of test products and hedonic assessments on the same set of items. The results are used for innovation or renovation of current products, or the development of new products. The exercise is not trivial since sensory data are typically ill-conditioned and of the “short and wide” type.

This presentation will discuss various strategies for establishing the link between sensory and hedonic data, how the said link is visually presented, and possible opportunities for further research.

All statistics students are expected to attend.
