Bayesian Model-Averaging for Benchmark Dose Estimation

Susan Simmons, PhD
Teaching Professor of Analytics
Institute for Advanced Analytics
North Carolina State University

Abstract:
Benchmark dose estimation (BMD) is an important part of toxicological risk assessment. In estimating BMD, a dose-response relationship must be defined and based on the selected relationship, the value of BMD can change. Due to this inconsistency, a novel approach to estimating BMD is to use model-averaging across potential dose-response relationships. Using Bayesian posterior model weights, this model-averaged BMD can be estimated and is gaining in popularity within the toxicological community. In this talk, we will discuss how BMD is estimated using the novel approach of Bayesian model-averaging.
