When writing reports and documents, two different systems dominate the market: Microsoft Word and Latex. Most users are already familiar with Microsoft Word because of its prevalence at home and in the office. In this talk, we will look at the advantages of using either one when writing a report. We will see how each one handles regular text, mathematical equations, figures and tables, and overall document design.
If time allows, we will discuss a unique advantage of Latex in the research environment: it can integrate with the computing package R using an R function called SWeave.
All statistics students are expected to attend.
