Statistics Major

Statisticians design experiments, analyze data, and interpret results. The National Science Foundation estimates that the demand for Statisticians will exceed the number of graduates for at least the next ten years. Western's Statistics Major integrates mathematics and statistics coursework while emphasizing computer applications. A Computer Science minor is recommended.

Math 122 Calculus I 4 hrs.
Math 123 Calculus II 4 hrs.
Math 230 Elementary Linear Algebra 4 hrs.
Math 272 Vector & Multivariate Calculus 4 hrs.
Stat 362 Probability 4 hrs.
Stat 364 Statistical Methods 4 hrs.
Stat 462 Introduction to Mathematical Statistics 3 hrs.
Stat 464 Introduction to Statistical Computing 3 hrs.
Stat 481 Communicating Statistical Results 3 hrs.
Stat 567 Statistical Design & Analysis of Experiments 4 hrs.
Stat 568 Regression Analysis 3 hrs.
Electives Choose 1 of: Stat 561, 563, 565, 566, or Math 570. 3 hrs.
Students planning graduate study in statistics should choose Math 570 as an elective.


Computer Science Requirements
CS 111 Computer Science I 4 hrs.
Choose one of: CS 104, 107, 201, 203, 204, 205, 206 2 hrs.
